Korean War started 70 years ago

As noted by the Korea Defense Veterans Association and others, June 25 is the 70th anniversary of the start of the Korean War. I like to think of it less as the beginning of a war and more the beginning of an enduring and close relationship between South Korea and the United States. In those 70 years, South Korea has grown from a people in desperate straits to a prosperous nation. And the US—for the most part—has played a positive role in that growth. On a personal note, my father Robert C. Perron served in Korea during the war (Bronze Star, Air Medal) as did my uncle Kenneth Wenzel (2nd Infantry Division). I served in Korea during the Korean DMZ Conflict of the 1960s (2nd Infantry Division) as did my brother Richard Perron (7th Infantry Division).
